Best Western Plus - Katy, TX
Best Western Plus, Katy Mills Blvd, Katy, TX
Yet another hotel as we continue our search for a home in Katy or the nearby area.
Best Western is a good hotel. The rooms are nice and clean. The air conditioner works well. The beds are comfy. All the basics are in place.
There are only 2 kids channels, which is kind of a drag at times. But that isn't a big deal.
The housekeepers are very skimpy with the towels. There are 4 of us and more than once I had to find one of the ladies and ask for the 4th towel. They kept leaving three. We were staying for 4 days and we really only asked for towels and trash take out. On the third day, I asked her to vacuum and our housekeeper actually made a face! That made me a bit angry as she had had it so easy before that. So, I had her clean a bit more. Not nice, I know...but she had it coming. I am a stickler for polite employees. If it is what you are getting paid to do, do it well!!
When you go to breakfast, go early. They don't do a great job of refilling the food. And the good food goes fast. They keep putting out the same old biscuits and muffins day after day. They are so hard! So, obviously, the good and new food is scooped up quickly. By day 3 I was so bored of the hard items that I just fed the kids cereal and fruit and left it at that. They were happy with it and it is healthier anyway. :)
The employees here are nice. They served free dinner on Wednesday. The place looks and smells good. Overall a good place to stay. And...you can get it at a good rate on Hotwire. It is a three star hotel...so if you ask for that in Katy, TX, you might get this hotel.

Subway - Katy Mills Blvd - Katy, TX
Subway on Katy Mills Blvd in Katy, TX (Walmart shopping center)
WHAT AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE AT A SUBWAY!
We were still on our trip out of town and were staying right across the street from Subway. So, in we went.
Subway is pretty standard. Non-speaking employees rush you through. Not rude and not friendly. Just Subway.
Well, that is not the case here. We walked in and were greeted by 2 friendly employees. They spoke to my kids right away, asking them about school. Now, we have been to many Subways. We like Subway. But NEVER have we experienced such friendly people! No employees ever make conversation at Subway. These two did.
They let my girls choose without making them feel rushed or uncomfortable. They were very friendly and helpful. Upbeat employees! This is what we like to see! They laughed, talked, smiled and interacted in a natural, friendly way.
I wish I could give their names, but I don't know them. One was a younger black girl and one was an older hispanic lady. Very cool people!!!
Thumbs up for this Subway. And especially for these two employees.
Oh and yes, the sandwiches were perfect.
Tweety Hair Salon - Katy, TX
Tweetys Hair Salon. 2001 Katy Mills Blvd, Katy, TX 77494
OK. You are probably thinking "why on earth would you go to a place called "Tweetys"?
And you are right to think that. I hesitated. But being from out of town, I thought "how bad could it be?". It was nearby and so I went.
I was bringing my daughters in for a hair cut. A simple razor cut, edgy style that we had very clear pictures of.
The place was empty, another clue to a horrible place. What was COMPLETELY ANNOYING was the fact that these ladies talked in whatever language they speak (Korean, japanese...who knows) for the ENTIRE hair cut. NOT ONE WORD TO MY GIRLS. Nothing! So rude. I can't stand it when that happens. Speak english to each other and your customers! Why don't people get it?????????? If you want to be treated rudely and not one word spoken to you or your kids, this is the place to go.
If you don't want to walk out with the haircut you went in for...this is your place. We asked for a razor cut style and one of my daughters got a bob! The other got regular layers. Not one got what they asked for. But I wanted them out of there. I will take them to an english-speaking salon to get it fixed.
It was also over-priced. Salon prices at a strip mall location!? And this is NOT a salon by any means.
RUN FROM HERE. DO NOT GO IN!!!!!!!!!!!! Worst haircut experience ever.

Lucianos Italian Pizza - Houston
We ordered Lucianos because we found the flyer in the lobby of our hotel and subs sounded really good.
Well, let me say, they were delicious! My picky kids were in love and I liked them, too. The italian sausage sub and the cheese bread were great. But if you are on a diet, this is not for you. They don't scimp on cheese. Yum!
We also got the cheesecake. DON'T DO THIS. It had a weird, onion flavor to it. So odd and actually pretty gross. We ate a few bites and it went into the trash.
But the food was great. You should try it if you haven't already!
Country Inn and Suites in Houston near Hobby Airport
Country Inn and Suites
8778 Airport Blvd
We were looking for an extended stay here and found this hotel at a great price on hotwire.
I normally stay at Hampton Inn everywhere I go because I just love Hampton Inn. So, I was very reluctant to stay here. But the price couldn't be beat and we ended up here.
The room was a bit musky. I don't know if a smoker had been in here or if it was just an odd room smell, but it turned me off immediately.
There was no fridge and the room and bed were just basic. I was ready to leave asap.
We settled in and had a great night sleep. The bed was basic, but very comfortable. The A/C worked great. The sink drained slow, but other than that, the room was fine.
They have great shampoo and conditioner ready for you. This is rare at hotels. It was great quality.
The breakfast was good. I like when a hotel offers warm breakfast and they did not disappoint. French toast, breakfast burritos, and, of course, the make-it-yourself waffle iron. The employees are friendly, too. Although the breakfast area could be a bit cleaner. Not real messy, so not a huge deal. They did not offer flavored coffee creamer like most hotels...I did not like that.
One thing that did disappoint is that the dryer was broken for all 4 days we were there. When I asked about it, the front desk lady did not know of an approx. fix date. This is not fun when you have kids and are staying a few days. It should have been fixed immediately. This is supposedly a 3-star hotel. A working dryer is a no brainer.
It ended up that we enjoyed our stay with very little problems. The nice employees pretty much made of for what management was not taking care of.
Raising Cane's Chicken - Pearland
Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers
9527 Broadway Street Pearland, TX 77584
We went to this restaurant on a recent trip to Pearland. We had never eaten at this place before. So, of course, being on a trip we thought we would try something new. And our son, 3 years, eats very little besides chicken.
What an OVERPRICED disappointment. Without the green sauce, the chicken is bland. Not seasoned, or seasoned very poorly. No taste to it.
It was tender and the place was clean, but the prices were such a rip off for a little bit of food that didn't taste like anything. I would save your money and get a full plate of tasty food for less money. If you are feeding a family, this place will leave your wallet AND your stomach empty.

Texas Rhinestone Source
Although this business does create rhinestone apparel and transfers for all of the United States, if you are in Texas....anywhere in Texas....you should be using this company for your rhinestone needs!
Super friendly, professional and timely on deliveries. Texas Rhinestone Source is the main company that oversees a couple of other websites. If you need transfers to apply yourself, visit http://www.wholesalerhinestonetransfers.net. If you want the apparel and just need one or two pieces, visit http://www.customrhinestoneshirts.com.
Those sites should pretty much have you covered. But, if you need anything wholesale and are a member of ASI or Sage, you can just contact Texas Rhinestone Source directly. Why not buy from a fellow Texan? This is Texas' own rhinestone place!

China Palace in San Marcos Texas
This review is for the China Palace restaurant in San Marcos. Texas. This is the one on Bugg Lane, near Dairy Queen and Half Price Books.
This restaurant used to be so good when it first opened. The food was always hot. The servers were friendly. Now, this is a different story.
The restaurant closes at 930pm. But if you go after 8pm, you will get old food. And they let the food run out. Once it is gone, it is going to stay gone. They do not replenish food after 8pm. You will find half of the meat trays empty. The only things left are the old things that nobody has wanted to eat. It is so ridiculous.
Another problem is that nobody there speaks english at all. From the hostess to the waiters to the manager. Nobody has any idea what you are saying. This would be fine if there was at least 1 or 2 people there who have contact with customers who can actually talk to you! It drives me crazy every time.
I think a new manager or two is needed. Someone who is fluent (I mean really fluent) in english and who understands customer service. Perhaps a college graduate or just an experienced manager who speaks both languages. The people there are more interested in sitting down to eat themselves than serving drinks or checking on customers.
Please, please get some new management! Keep food in the trays! Try to please your customers!
We are not going back. We used to go regularly. But after two trips after 8pm that were horrible, NEVER AGAIN.

Steak n Shake in Southpark Meadows
I have 3 kids that love to eat. Problem is, none of them agree about where to go or what type of food they want to eat. Steak n Shake has something for everyone. Chicken, grilled cheese, fish and great burgers are all served up every day.
I had to put in a review of this business as we had 5 people eat, drink and get stuffed at Steak n Shake for $30!! This is unheard of! What a great price! And I need to say that we only had one kids meal. The rest were regular, adult meals. I expected the bill to be over $40. But it wasn't. We will be back.
We also had a great waiter, I wish I could remember his name. But, nevertheless, he was very kind.
On a side note, a couple of years ago when I had only two kids, we went to this same Steak n Shake at about 8pm. At the next table were two older men. They walked over and did a few magic tricks for my daughters. Great ones. We still haven't figured out how they did what they did. And they gave bracelets to my girls that were metal and solid...yet seconds before were bending like soft rubber. Amazing. They told us they had just come from a show where they had performed. My girls still talk about them.

Need a Tow in Austin?
Are you looking for a towing company in Austin? Nobody wants to have to use one, but if you do I know who you should call! This company was recommended to me by a friend because I truly had no idea where I should go. I don't like to deal with things like this...but I had no choice.
I called Harpers and had a great experience. Well, as great as spending money I didn't want to spend on a tow can get. Although not chatty, the driver was pleasant. I felt like he knew what he was doing. But the equipment was top-notch! And I didn't have damage to my car. Everything went as they said it would. Need a tow in Austin? Check out Harpers at http://www.harpers-towing.com or call 512-443-1000.
You will get what they say you will get and there won't be any surprises.
